Does Twitter become the new google?

In essence Twitter is a status update service and it’s a very powerfull and a focus search tool when you know how to use it!

More and more people are using Twitter Search.

Google used to get 100% of our queries. But today, I bet Twitter is getting at least some % of them. There are some things Twitter is just better at for getting information than Google.

Here are just a few you can perform with Twitter:

Researching companies deals, researching & monitor your brand in all the conversations on Twitter, products and services for real customer feedback, breaking news and live events/conference updates, specific questions who need update and live answers, expert advice, friends help for unindexed information…

It is not a total threat but Twitter is so superior in these areas that people will indeed make the effort to search somewhere new to get the information.

Twitter is a “real-time” search tool, simply faster, specially if you have a good friends network who can help and can reach people more interactively. Twitter can become a share search tool between followers and their own network

Instead of going to the big Google website, customers may change their minds and be going to Twitter to get the real scoop or dedicated answers who can’t be find on the big search portal who is sometime very irrelevant……..

For the travel landscape, Twitter can be a great tool too. From search to developp your brand and interaction with your customers.

What do you think about the use of Twitter in the Travel industry? Any examples or thoughts to share?

  1. Nice post Claude!

I have started using Twitter Search to monitor both our company and our industry and competitors - I think it is a very valuable tool in measuring “buzz” and being able to respond directly to customers…will be interesting to see where it goes from here.

  2. Hello Claude,

Twitter: We Can Do What Google Can’t

In the future, searches won’t only query what’s being said at the moment, but will go out to the Twitter audience in the form of a question, like a faster and less-filtered Yahoo Answers or Wiki Answers. Users would be able to tap the collective knowledge of the 6 million or so members of the Twitterverse.

“You put a question out to the global mind, and it comes back,” Mr. Chaffee explained. “Millions of people are contributing to the knowledge base. The engine is alive. You get feedback in real time from people, not just documents.”
