Yen Lee, UpTake CEO notes at the bloggers meeting at PhoCusWright Conference 2008

Yesterday, 18th, at the PhoCusWright conference 2008 here in Hollywood, it was a special meeting with bloggers and some innovative CEO

Yen Lee, UpTake CEO was there, of course, and I give you some of my direct notes.

It’s like a bit telegraphic post, but I think very interesting to better understand UpTake business and the travel lead industry.

  • The market of Travel Lead Generation is 3 Billion dollars!!!!
  • 70 % of consummers start search from Yahoo and Google
  • We help consumers decide for their travel
  • With a focus on activities, lodging and people who drive to their vacations
  • UpTake make a “synthesis” of travel information who is disseminated all other the Web
  • We are a “Lead generation travel engine”
  • We provide hotel phone number and direct link to their web page
  • We are crawling the deep web depending of the content size
  • Everything is geocoded
  • Travel is a global business, so our technology work for all languages
  • Soon, we will have some number of different widgets
  • We are based in Palo Alto SFO and in China
  • We created Meta-Data, we don’t created content
  • It’s a Google model >> but for travel !!!!
  • if you want to be indexed by UpTake, please send your RSS or feeds, UpTake will crawl it !!!

  1. Claude,

  2. Good summary Claude. Can you see Google looking at UpTake? I can almost imagine an aggregated review and travel idea section of Google, hmmm…

  3. Phil,

Google is trying to do that in other way with their Google Universal Search, but, but, look at my post in the Jens blog April 21 - 2008 >> Tourism Internet Marketing, this post “Google Universal Search and your travel industry business. Are you ready?”

You will understand their are in other way and they miss the human dimension with the travel bloggers and many others things that made travel experience.

Google guys doesn’t understand what is travel, their are just smart engeeners, but the wheels are turning and they will be out of part of the game ;-)

Stay tune as the Rabbit say ;-)

  4. Need some help: I lost the Uptake (err formerly Kango …hm like the artist who used to be…)dedicated blog search button underway. Where did your people hide it Elliott?
